A Unique Casual Dining Experience
When we travel, we are always on the lookout for something out of the ordinary and a restaurant that is always popular with the locals.
Nine chances out of ten, you’re bound to get a great meal at affordable prices and in Victoria, John’s Place is just the 🎟 ticket!
I was raised in Victoria and have watched the city grow in leaps and bounds over the years. Did you know that this city has more restaurants then any other per capita in North America, second to San Francisco? ❓
Can you imagine how hard it would be for a restaurant to survive in this city?
Yet, John’s Place has been serving fantastic meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner for over 3 decades. That certainly is a testament to the quality of food served and overall customer satisfaction.

John’s Place In Victoria – About The Owner
Owner and Chef John Cantin arrived in Victoria BC and opened his doors for business back in 1984.
As a trained 👨 chef and member of the 1976 Canadian Team at the Culinary Olympics in Germany, John realized his dream of opening a restaurant that would be affordable for all and offer good down to earth home cooking!

He continues to serve great meals at affordable prices in a casual, comfortable, fun atmosphere.
Stepping inside the doors of John’s Place is a treat in itself!
John’s Place Victoria – Huge Menu Selections
Open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, everything here is made from scratch.
From signature Eggs Benedict and Belgian Waffles in the morning, to their favorite Southwestern Meatloaf or delicious special feature dishes added as a surprise, the menu has something to offer even for the most picky of eaters.
We always enjoy trying something different on each visit and have yet to be disappointed!
Below, is just a sample of what to expect and what we enjoyed on our most recent visit for dinner this season.
The Longhorn Dinner
I chose the Longhorn Dinner on this visit and it was delicious!
Served with tender slices of slow roasted beef brisket with Texas Whiskey BBQ sauce, grilled with fresh mushrooms, all on top of homemade cornbread slices, garnished with crispy onions, complete with mouth watering buttermilk mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables.
A great choice and a very popular dish along with their “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatloaf Dish.” Two favorites on the main menu!
Fettuccine and Wild Salmon
My wife selected one of the featured pasta specials that are always available besides the huge regular menu. The fresh salmon accompanied with fettuccine and garlic toast was another excellent choice.
Served with a fresh side salad and homemade dressing, it was a complete and delicious meal.
Leave Room for Dessert
You simply must leave room for dessert at this restaurant. We always leave with a doggy bag from dinner, making sure we have room left over for their fabulous desserts!
From freshly baked homemade 🥧 pies, cheesecake to ongoing daily specials, you will not find better desserts in the city at such affordable prices then anywhere but John’s!
We selected two of the featured dessert specials, taking advantage of something new and freshly prepared.
Cherry Blueberry Raspberry Crumble
Freshly baked crumble mixed with fresh blueberries, raspberries and cherries. What can I say, it was outstanding. Add ice cream if you dare!
Death by Chocolate
This was a daily special and the smooth chocolate layer was simply to Die For!
Rich, creamy and smooth, we could only manage to get down half and take the rest home for a late night snack.
John’s Place – Featured On The Food Network Canada
This restaurant has become increasingly popular as each year goes by and is a definite landmark in the city.
In fact, the television program 🍁 Food Network Canada stopped by to film an episode at John’s.
This is quite an honor to be selected for this Nationwide television program and one that does not come easy among the thousands of restaurants operating in Canada.
If you’re looking for home cooked affordable eating off the main tourist grind and a favorite among locals, then you simply must mark John’s Place for any meal throughout the day.
It’s one of those hidden gems in the city that has been serving customers for years!
On our return visit to the city, my wife and I had the pleasure of dining once again, at John’s Place. On this visit, we enjoyed a wonderful morning breakfast.
We also had the opportunity to meet with the restaurants owner – John!

Signature Eggs Benedict
The eggs benedict are a favorite and for very good reason! They are delicious, and you have a choice of having your eggs served on homemade corn bread!

The 222 Headache
If you can’t decide, try the best of both worlds! Our regular or our new gluten-free waffle and your choice of a half Classic Benny or half Veggie Benny.
Served with your choice of our spicy pancake syrup, house made cream cheese syrup or pancake syrup!
The breakfast selections are huge with something to satisfy most everyone! Both breakfast and lunch menus can be seen on their website.

John’s Place is now only open from 8am to 3 pm for breakfast and lunch only, 7 days a week!
