Phoenix, the Land of Sun, is an ideal destination to attend a weekend of exciting auto racing!
You’re almost guaranteed beautiful ☀ sunshine, warm temperatures and a thrilling weekend of racing. If you and your family have not been to a 🏁 NASCAR Stock Car Race, then it’s definitely an event worth checking out.
You can pack up the 🚌 RV and camp right at this amazing race track. You don’t know what you’re missing, until you actually experience this type of sporting event in person.

Phoenix Raceway is located in 🌵 Avondale, Arizona. The race track is easily accessible and located within 20 miles west of downtown Phoenix. It’s located in a beautiful setting, surrounded by the nearby 🌄 Estralla Mountains.
What other race track in the country is surrounded by beautiful 🌵 cactus and gentle rolling hills?
Phoenix Raceway is a perfect one-mile, low banked, tri-oval race track. It’s not too big and not too small. Fans get to experience the sounds and thrills of stock car racing up close!
One of the great things about attending a race in Arizona, is the likelihood of getting 🌧 rained out is very slim, in this hot and sunny State. As previously mentioned above, you’re almost guaranteed beautiful 🌞 sunshine over the race weekend.

If you choose to; 🚗 drive, 🛬 fly or take your 🚌 recreational vehicle to the track, it’s very easy to get to either way, and there are plenty of places to stay as well!
There are great; 🏨 hotels, motels and recreational vehicle parks, all within a short distance from the race track.
Phoenix Raceway Camping – Right At The Track
Thousands of Campers at PIR
The facilities are ideal, from rustic ⛺ camping sites, paved camping stalls, to first class reserved sites with complete hook ups right at track side. This race track has it all!
You can camp for a full seven days in either reserved or unreserved camping spaces, inside or just outside the race track for very reasonable prices.
What a bargain! 💰
Other than the few premier track side sites, these are dry camping sites, so your unit must be self-contained. Propane, water and waste dumping services are available for a 💵 fee, should you require these extra services during your stay.
There are plenty of on site🚻 portable toilets to use if needed, as well.:)

Grocery Market at PIR – Old Photo
Until just recently, campers had the luxury of an onsite grocery outlet. It was awesome!
Prices were not inflated for convenience, but left at competitive rates as that of shopping in town.
Safeway had taken over providing grocery items for race fans a few seasons ago.
In 2023, Walmart had taken over as the grocery provider for campers at Phoenix Raceway, but no longer. Let’s hope this returns one day in the very near future. From what I understand, there has been a free shuttle that runs to a Fry’s Grocery Store in Avondale for campers, but I can’t confirm this.
As well, there were and may still be food trucks and ice sales available in the former Walmart space.
Great news for campers, with an onsite grocery continuing at the track!

As well, there are continuous courtesy shuttle 🚍 buses to taxi you from your campsite to the main gates of the race track. There’s also a number of golf carts available to shuttle you for a small gratuity.
Another bonus and added great feature for campers, is the complimentary 🚿 shower trailers provided for the entire weekend. These conveniences are so great, that the facility provides for the thousands of campers attending the races each year!

PIR Hosts Two Premier NASCAR Events Each Year
In addition to the two premier races held each year, the race track holds other great race events throughout the season.
Phoenix International Raceway had officially changed their name to ISM Raceway a few seasons ago, along with their new look and new track configuration. The race track looks outstanding. What a great job they’ve done with the entire facility!

If you are going to be camping, be sure to reserve your space well in advance. Camping sites sell out quickly, especially for the Championship Race Weekend. You can select your choice of locations and reserve your spot from the website.

Phoenix Raceway – New Track Layout
Track Updated
We attended the November 2019 NASCAR weekend race event, just after the new track grandstand construction, and when it was known as ISM Raceway.
The grandstands and new track layout is outstanding, with a seating capacity of 42,000. All seats are individual with seat backs, very comfortable and with cup holders included!
What a wonderful job they have done with this facility!

As well and in 2020, Phoenix Raceway hosted their inaugural Championship race weekend, which is now held every season at this location.
My brother and I ✈ flew down from 🍁 BC, Canada for the 2021 Championship Race Weekend that was held on November 05-07.
What a fabulous race weekend it was, with 4 great races!
2026 Season Update
Below are the race weekend dates and events for the upcoming 2026 season.
The Spring Premier NASCAR race weekend event will be held on: Saturday March 07th & Sunday March 08th. There is also an ARCA MENARD series race that is scheduled for Thursday March 05th.
I’ve got my tickets booked and will be attending this exciting event once again! 🙂
As well, on March 07 it will be a double header Saturday, with the Indy Car Series returning to Phoenix. This will be the leagues first time back since 2018. The back to back races will be with the newly sponsored O’Reilly Auto Parts NASCAR Series {previously Xfinity Series}.
