Eating With Carmen Food Tours In Playa del Carmen
If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know one of our most favorite things to do when traveling to new destinations, is to experience a local cultural food tour.
We did just that on our recent visit to Playa del Carmen in Mexico, with …
🌮 Eating With Carmen Food Tours 🌯
It was a superb tour with our excellent host Alex!
Authentic Local Experience Playa del Carmen Tour
We chose their evening Authentic Local Experience tour from 5pm – 8pm. What a great choice it was, visiting a number of hidden local favorite eateries.
This is just one of a number of tours you can experience with Eating With Carmen Food Tours.
About Eating With Carmen Food Tours
This well established and renowned food tour business has been around since 2017. Since inception, they have entertained well over 30,000 guests from all parts of the world.
They introduce visitors to the “Real Taste of Mexico” visiting a number of favorite eateries only the locals know of.
Founder and CEO Daniel has always had a passion for food, and what better to share his passion for Mexican cuisine with others, than with a local walking food tour experience. Today, his successful enterprise has expanded throughout the Yucatan Peninsula, all the way to Mexico City.
Our Food Tour Experience

This tour we selected was a full 3 hours, with a total of seven unique tasting locations in Playa del Carmen. All local within easy walking distances apart from one another.
As we leisurely made our way to each culinary stop, our host Alex would offer insights into the history and culture of Playa del Carmen.

Along the way, we also passed some beautiful displays of local street art.

Below, is just a sample of some of the delicious local favorites you will experience on this tour.

Our first stop was to one of Alex’s long time favorite local eateries. Open 24/7, this hidden gem serves a delicious Quesadilla, with your choice of pork/polo/beef/mushroom.
Alex first introduced a tasty Tamal appetizer, before the main was served.

It’s no wonder this little hidden gem is one of Alex’s favourites. The Quesadilla’s were awesome!

After wetting our appetite, it was then off to our second local establishment to enjoy mixed tacos, one with tender flank steak.

Again, a superb and tasty blend of ingredients!

While walking on this tour to the different establishments, Alex pointed out some very historic areas in town, some history of the Playa del Carmen and more. All that we would not have known otherwise, unless on a tour like this.

Our third stop on the tour was yet another small local favorite eatery. Here, it was time to sample Mexican horchata beverage, or any other fruit beverage of your choice.

I chose a horchata, a tasty beverage usually made with long-grain white rice, cinnamon, vanilla and sugar. Mixed with milk for a nice creamy texture.
A very smooth beverage. Others in our group tried a variety of other fruit drinks that were prepared by the vendor.
It was off to our fourth establishment to sample enchiladas and traditional mole with 19 spices.

Mole
“Rich, savory-sweet mole negro starts with at least three types of dried chilies. It uses smoky whole spices and gets its dark brown, almost black color from a Mexican herb, hoja santa, and lots of unsweetened dark chocolate.”

It was then off for a brief stop at a local market for a chance to sample and purchase some fresh fruit and/or vegetables.

A nice break before heading out to our last two stops on the tour.

Moving right along, it was time to introduce us to some local street vendor food, to enjoy a taco de suadero and taco de barbacoa.

“Tacos de suadero are a very popular street food, with thin-cut beef and/or pork, usually cut from the belly/leg area and known for its smooth texture.”
“Tacos de barbacoa are a favorite street food Mexican dish of slow-cooked, tender, flavorful shredded meat, typically served on warm corn tortillas.”

Both tasted awesome!

If we hadn’t had enough at this point, it was off to our final stop to sample fresh fruit popsicles and/or a choice of ice cream in a cup or cone.
What a great way to finish this awesome tour with our host Alex and others in the group from various destinations around the world.
If you love trying local dishes in hidden local favorite establishments and away from your typical tourist restaurants, then you simply must add a walking food tour into your travel plans.
It’s always the first tour we look for, when traveling to new destinations. It gives you an opportunity to sample traditional local dishes and discover hidden gems like these at the same time.
You won’t be disappointed!
