Something that has become more and more important over the years for my wife and I, is maintaining good health. This includes regular exercise and eating a proper diet, both at home and while away on 🏖 our holidays. Here’s a look at just …
that are; Good To Know, for travelers of all ages. We all like to let loose and enjoy ourselves while away on vacation. That’s great and isn’t that what it’s all about?
At the same time though, it is important to be aware of some of the more common travel health problems, that we may encounter when away. Surprisingly, many of these health related ailments can be easily avoided.
Here’s a quick look at a few health issues that may arise, and how to possibly prevent and/or remedy them as well.
Tips For Staying Healthy Traveling Abroad
Travel Health Tips # 1 – Drinking Water
It goes without saying and is something most seasoned travelers already know. That is to; 🚱 Avoid Tap Water at all costs, unless you are absolutely certain the water is purified. Just a small amount of ⚠ contaminated water can cause the most unpleasant of 🤢 symptoms!
- ✔ Avoid even brushing your teeth with a small amount of water.
- ✔ The same goes for – ice cubes.
- ✔ Drink bottled water at all times, unless you are satisfied the water at your hotel, resort or cruise ship has been purified.
On a brighter note, it’s also important to drink plenty of water when traveling, especially during air travel as you will see below.

Drinking lots and lots of water will help keep you; well hydrated, happy and healthy! 🙂
Stay Healthy While Traveling # 2 – Jet Lag And Your Health
That dreaded ✈ Jet Lag can be a terrible nuisance for many, especially those traveling with children.
There are actually a few things that can help prevent or lessen the degree of jet lag, when enduring those long-haul flights. Taking a few extra precautions, can help you adjust more easily and painlessly upon arrival at your destination.
- Try to drink plenty of water during your flight. Keeping yourself hydrated will make you feel much better and with more energy as well. So, when the flight attendants walk by offering water, be sure to grab a glass or two! 🥃
As well, drinking water will force you to get up 🚶 and make your way to the 🚻 restroom. Keeping the blood circulating and walking around several times during a long flight, is very important for your overall well being and health.
A few extra tips during and after a long flight, to help adapt to your present surroundings include;
✔ Upon arrival at your destination, try to adapt to the present ⏰ time as quickly as you can. Avoid taking a nap, as this in most cases, will make you feel worse.
Many times taking a nap right away can prolong jet lag, and may make you feel even more tired! 😴
✔ For adults, try to 🍺 Avoid Alcohol, or consuming more than one drink or two during your flight. Alcohol will actually make you feel drowsy and will dehydrate you as well. 😥
✔ If you can, eat as healthy as possible, 🍔 Avoiding Fatty Foods as much as you can. We always carry a few 🍌 healthy snacks to eat, throughout our long flights.
These are just a couple of the more common health related problems you or a family member are likely to experience when traveling. There are of course, many other difficulties that may surface when traveling.
For example, an unexpected minor or major injury to a family member may occur unexpectedly.
Traveling Abroad # 3 – Pack A Travel First Aid Kit
It’s always important to carry a 👝 travel first aid kit with you at all times, for those minor unexpected 🤕 nuisances. Of course, purchasing travel medical insurance is a must!
I’ve always said;
“If You Can Afford To Travel, You Can Afford Travel Insurance.”

My detailed post will include some of the more suggested things you should pack in your first aid kit. All of the items listed are recommended by; {well seasoned travelers} and what we include in ours as well. 🙂
Tips For Healthy Travel # 4 – Don’t Let The Bed Bugs Bite
Unfortunately and something that is becoming more and more common in; hotels, resorts and other places, are those dreaded bed bugs!🕷 When you arrive in your room for the night or for your vacation, try not unpack your 🧳 bags, before checking the bedding!🛌
You do not want these annoying 🕷 bugs coming home with you!
Trust me, we’ve had family members bring home these bugs, and it cost them thousands to have their home fumigated as a result. Bed bugs are very tiny parasitic creatures that thrive mostly in covered bedding, hence the name 🛌 bed bugs.
They can easily get into your clothing and make their way home with you. These pests also bite and can cause irritating skin problems for many people!
Check the bed area for tiny spots under the bedding, even between the mattresses. If you suspect any sign of bed bugs, request you be moved immediately to another room.
These nasty pests have ruined wonderful vacations for many people. Nasty rashes and even infection can result for some people who have been bitten.
Try to avoid leaving your luggage on the 🧳 floor and open, where it’s easy for these bugs to get into. Keep your luggage closed tightly and your bags high and dry. This especially for 🎒 backpackers, who may be staying in 🏡 hostels.

Travel Health Tips – Final Note
Be Aware Of What You Eat and Drink
“Select Your Food & Drink Carefully”
Without a doubt and probably the most common problem many travelers will encounter and especially if traveling abroad, is that dreaded; 🤢 Montezuma’s Revenge.
Or more commonly known as the nasty symptoms of – Diarrhea. 🙁
Traveler’s diarrhea (TD) is a medical disorder, resulting from a sanitation breakdown that eventually causes a bacterial contamination of; drinking water and food.
In most cases and thankfully, the symptoms are minor with that annoying diarrhea clearing within a short time.
In wrapping up here, drink plenty of purified or bottled water, to keep your system clear. Always be aware of what and where you are eating to keep you happy and healthy. 🙂
Doing these two simple things, will most certainly help prevent unneccessary illness from arising.
