Often referred to as the ‘Venice of the East’, the lake city of Udaipur is a major tourist attraction in India and the Hotel Udaigarh is ideally located for visitors to the city. This is a beautifully restored 150 year old Haveli, but still with remnants of the past visible in the decorative furnishings and doors throughout the resort.

Rooms are very modern with all the conveniences one would expect in a more luxurious boutique hotel.
Haveli – Wikipedia
Haveli is generic term used for a traditional townhouse and mansions in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh usually one with historical and architectural significance.
You couldn’t ask for a more ideal location with a stunning view of the Pichola Lake and the Lake Palace. The hotel is located in the popular tourist zone, with an abundance of shops and restaurants to choose from.
The Lake Palace of Udaipur
The Beautiful Lake Palace
The Lake Palace was formerly named Jag Niwas Palace and was mainly a summer palace. Built between the years 1743 and 1746 it is the most popular attraction in the city and is now a luxury hotel with boat access only.

What also makes this property so unique is their roof-top swimming pool and restaurant offering breathtaking views and sunsets of Pichola Lake, the Old City and the surrounding Aravalli mountain ranges. This heritage resort is also just a few minutes’ walk to the City Palace and down to the water’s edge to the Ghats and the pedestrian bridge where you can enjoy a stroll over the lake to the other side of the lake.
You are also just minutes from where you can catch a daily sunset boat tour.
Udaipur Heritage Hotels – Udai Garh Resort Rooms
Udai Garh Heritage Resort Standard Room
In typical fashion of a boutique hotel, there are just 19 rooms to choose from, making your stay more peaceful and relaxing. You have a choice of a Standard, Heritage Deluxe or Royal Super Deluxe Heritage Room, all with Air Conditioning and many other special amenities. Rooms usually come with breakfast included as well depending on your booking.
“Our rooms are uniquely designed with a blend of traditional Rajasthani feel and a touch of modern luxury.”
All nineteen rooms have full private bathrooms with hot showers. Each room is uniquely designed with a blend of handsome antique and refurbished furniture made from recycled wood and textiles. As well, all rooms offer television and bottled water for your convenience.
Udai Garh Heritage Resort Standard Room Bath
All Heritage rooms have ensuite bathrooms (with shower), are air-conditions. Each room is distinctively designed, with a mix of handcrafted antique and refurbished furniture made from recycled wood, textiles in the vibrant colors of Rajasthan, and handpicked objects d’art. Television is provided in all rooms.
During our stay free Wi-Fi was available in our room and throughout the hotel with a good connection!
The Udai Garh Heritage Resort is located in the Old City with its narrow streets and alleyways. The hotel can only be reached by auto rickshaw. However, I did see small taxis coming with a few yards of the front door. As well, because this is a unique heritage hotel, there is no elevator and no power back up and because of the historic location with limited access; there is no private parking available. Staff will direct you to a nearby City Parking Lot for those arriving by car.
Udaipur Heritage Hotels – A Multi Cuisine Restaurant
Udaigarh Hotel Rooftop Restaurant
During my stay I enjoyed breakfast each morning on the rooftop with a wide selection of entrees to choose from. As well, I had dinner on a few occasions and found the meals to be freshly cooked and very tasty particularly the traditional Indian dishes.
“At Udaigarh the food is simple, tasty, a blend of Rajasthani and selected Western cuisines using organically grown, locally sourced ingredients. “
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and found the staff to be very friendly and eager to assist in any way they could to make my stay as enjoyable as they possibly could. I would certainly not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone visiting Udaipur and looking for an affordable well – appointed boutique hotel.
