Visit Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park
Lanzarte is situated in the Canary Islands and is located about 125 km off the coast of Africa. The town of Playa Blanca was once a tiny fishing village, but has evolved into a very popular family friendly beach holiday resort. I have visited locations on the south tip of Spain, but now wished I had journeyed a little further into the Canary Islands.
Below, is Todd’s article on the Rancho Texas Theme Park, one of the many popular attractions on the island suited for the whole family.
What’s up, cowboy?
If you are headed to Lanzarote for your holidays, you will no doubt be checking out the best ways to fill your leisure time. Away from the beautiful beaches and calm oceans, there are some fantastic activities to be enjoyed, and a visit to the Rancho Texas Park should be top of the list…
Situated on the edge of Puerto del Carmen in the eastern part of the island, the Wild West-themed animal park is a real treat for both adults and kids.
Open daily from 9.30am until 5.30pm, the park offers a whole host of entertainment with events and live shows scheduled throughout the day. Rancho Texas can be easily reached by using the dedicated bus service, which stops at a number of resorts across Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen at a cost of just four euros (or free if you’re staying in Puerto del Carmen). The return journey picks up late in the afternoon, giving you the opportunity to really make the most of the park. The attraction is also easily reachable by private car or taxi.
There are plenty of ways to enjoy this expansive attraction with the opportunity to indulge in some leisure time or take part in the many activities available. The park is home to an exotic collection of species that inhabit spacious areas recreated to represent their natural habitats. The mammals count sea lions, raccoons and the majestic white tiger among them, while the separate farm area is perfect for the little ones – it’s just like a picture book with rabbits, hens, goats, pigs and donkeys playing in clean and comfortable surroundings.
For the braver visitor, the Reptilarium is a real highlight.
Spread over more than 1000 square meters, the area is beautifully designed with winding passageways, caves and lagoons that host a breathtaking collection of creatures. Giant tortoises reside here alongside boa constrictors, pythons, bearded dragons and chameleons. This year, the park welcomed its newest addition in the form of the Komodo Dragons – the largest lizards in the world and a very special sight.
The Indian lagoon is another great sight with its waterfalls and windmill. There’s the chance to canoe in the rivers or take a pony ride along the riverside, surrounded by a village of wigwams. Elsewhere, the central lake is a sight to behold with crocodiles swimming in its shallow waters.
When lunchtime rolls around, the Park has plenty of options to satisfy even the hungriest of bellies. The popular fast food restaurant has all the usual fare – pizzas, burgers, spaghetti, chicken nuggets and onion rings are all available. For a Texan themed meal head on over to the Wild Horse Saloon to sample treats from its delicious barbecue-style cuisine.
After lunch, you can continue to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, perhaps by heading over to the swimming area for a chill out. The recreational pool and water game section is overlooked by two water slides – one 82 meters long and one 100 meters – which snake their way around rocky slopes and plant-filled terrain for a fun and exciting ride.
There is constant lifeguard supervision around the slides, allowing the adults to relax and sunbathe while the kids have a swim.
There are changing rooms with toilets and showers, too, so you can rinse off after a vigorous sunbathing or water slide session. The shaded ‘splash and pool terrace’ is an ideal place for the family to enjoy a spot of lunch or a snack, while the landscaped outdoor space invites a lazy afternoon in the sunshine.
Another real highlight of the park is the sheer wealth of color. This is perhaps seen most beautifully with the birds. The park is home to an abundance of bird life including;
- bald eagle
At the daily ‘birds of prey’ show, visitors can experience these majestic winged creatures flying right overhead – and we mean RIGHT overhead!
Don’t forget to look out for the Condor, which is the largest flying bird in the world.
The parrot and cockatoo exhibition is also great fun and children will love seeing the birds showing off their abilities on stage with games and sports.
And it’s not just the birds that have their own show.
The sea lions love the spotlight and the Sea Lion Interaction is one of the Park’s most popular events.
Visitors can get up close and personal with these playful animals and may even get to see them leap through the waters to a distance of nearly two meters.
Dance the Night Away
After hours, the fun continues at Rancho Texas. Held twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7-11pm, the Country Nights are packed full of music, dance and Wild West-themed hijinks. Visitors are greeted by Cowboys and Indians on horseback and will be welcomed into the ranch by even more colorful characters. Tickets are all-inclusive so it’s the ideal time to just let go and have fun. Sangria and beer will be flowing for the adults and soft drinks for the kids.
There’s a comedy show, all-you-can-eat BBQ buffet, a dance team and a whip and lasso duo who just love to show off their moves.
A live band play country and western favorites and the kids will be provided with their very own entertainment. Line dancing and a rodeo bull complete this fantastic Texan-themed night.
Entrance fee to the park is currently 20 euros for adults and 15 for children (aged 2-14). If you’d like to buy tickets to the Sea Lion Interaction too, the total cost is 70 euros for adults and 65 for children. The Country Nights are priced at 42 euros for adults and 22 for children. Prices may vary by season or there may be special offers so it’s always best to check the Rancho Texas website for the most up to date prices before you travel.
